As teams make their way to the quarter finals stage of the 2011 ICC World Cup, there is an increased frenzy on the part of cricket fans to get hold of tickets for the semifinals and final. In fact, fans in Mumbai are so sure that India will reach the finals, that they have been desperately trying to get tickets for that all-important game at the Wankhede stadium Mumbai.

In order to prevent the mayhem caused at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru and at the Vidharbha stadium in Nagpur, where fans lining up for tickets at the venues were lathi-charged by the police, it was decided by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that tickets for the semifinals & final would be offered only online by the ballot system. The first draw for the public ballot for tickets to these games was made on Thursday. All successful applicants were then sent an email about the allotment of their tickets & they then had to make online payment. After payment, the tickets would be delivered to them.

The price of tickets available through the online ballot process for the World Cup final at Wankhede stadium were reduced from Rs.12,500/- and Rs.18,750/- to Rs.10,000/- and Rs.15,000/- respectively for the different stands.
