Oscar Award 2011


The Oscar Award of 2011 is a much awaited event for the Indians as our very own A.R. Rahman has been nominated for his contribution in the movie 127 Hours. Let's see, who were the other Indians to be nominated or won the Oscar Award ever.

The 83rd Academy Award is going to be held on 27th February, 2011. There is a big hue and cry for the same. As this time our very own the music maestro A.R.Rahman, has been nominated for two categories, for his contribution in the film 127 Hours.

In the mean time, let's take a look at the Indians who were either nominated or won the Academy Award.

List of Indians Associated with Oscar Award


1. Mehboob Khan's Mother India has been nominated in the Best Foreign Film category in the year 1957.

2. Mira Nair's Salam Bombay has been nominated in the Best Foreign Film category in the year 1988.

3. Satyajit Ray, the man whose contribution to Indian cinema made him got a place in the non-competitive section of Oscar. He has been given Honorary Academy Award in the year 1991.

4. Aashutosh Gowarikar's master piece Lagaan has been nominated in Best Foreign Film category in the year 2001.

5. Ashvin Kumar has been nominated in the Best Short Film category for his short film "Little Terrorist", in the year 2004.

6. Resul Pookutty has won the award in Best Sound Mixing category for his work on Slum dog Millionaire in the year 2008.

7. A.R.Rahman has been nominated for two of his songs from the movie Slum Dog Millionaire and won for the song "Jai Ho", the Best Music and Original Song Award along with the legend Gulzar Saab in the year 2008.

8. A.R.Rahman won the Best Music, Original Score Award for his music in Slum Dog Millionaire in the year 2008.

The above list excluded awards won by Indians like Manoj Knight Shaymalan and Ben Kingsley, considering that these legends are now an interim part of the Hollywood industry.
