The Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) is the entrance examination for lectureship in colleges in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) is conducted by the University of Pune. The University of Pune conducts the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) as a State Agency on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) is duly accredited by UGC; and the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) is of equal value of the National Entrance Test (NET).

Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) Question Pattern


The Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) Question Pattern is divided into three papers. Paper I of Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) is the general paper common for all subjects. Paper II of Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) contains objective type questions on the subject concerned, while Paper III asks descriptive questions on the subject.

  • Paper-I of Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET): The First Paper of the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) is the General Paper on Teaching and Research Aptitude, logical reasoning, basic English and mathematics, general knowledge and so on. Choices are provided in this section. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions are given of two marks each, and the candidates have to answer any fifty(50) of them. If more than 50 questions are attempted by the candidate in the Paper I of the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET), the first 50 questions attempted would be considered for evaluation.

  • The candidate will have to choose Paper-II and Paper-III for a single given subject only. Questions in the Paper-II and III of the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) will be of the Post Graduate Level in the subject concerned. The Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) question pattern for Paper-II will be objective type questions as in Paper-I of the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET). The Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) question pattern of Paper-III will be short and long answer type questions on the subject concerned on the basis of the given syllabus.

  • The duration of both Paper-I and II will be 75 minutes and both will carry 100 marks. The Test Booklets of Paper I and II will contain 60 and 50 objective type questions respectively. Nevertheless, the answers are to be marked in the separate answer sheet provided with the test booklet of the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET). A common answer-sheet for Paper I and II will be given at the commencement of Paper I of Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET). This answer sheet will be collected after the first session. The answer sheet for Paper III of Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) will be provided separately. Answers, if marked on the test booklet itself, will not be considered for evaluation in the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET).

  • Paper-III of the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET) will be held in the second session. The duration and marks will be 2 hours and 30 minutes, and 200 marks respectively. For this paper, answers are to be written in the Test Booklet itself.

  • Failure to appear for Paper I of the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET), or clearing it, will make the candidate ineligible for Paper-II and Paper-III of the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (SET).
