The most popular and in the news political party in Mumbai is the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. MNS chief Raj Thackrey established MNS on March 9, 2006 in Mumbai. Since then, within 4 years, MNS has gained the popularity of the masses and is constantly in the rounds and news channels for some or the other incidents.

Reasons for Raj Thackeray leaving Shiv Sena

There were a lot of reasons for Raj Thackeray leaving Shiv Sena. But the most prominent and in the news reason was his difference with Uddhav Thackeray. After retirement of Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray, Uddhav was the predecessor. He was in charge of the Shiv Sena. Raj Thackeray is much more fiery and deserved to take over the leadership after Balasaheb Thackeray. He had created his own class of followers as such and his work was well recognised in Mumbai. After a lot of "Ghusmat" in the words of Raj Thackeray, he finally left Shiv Sena.

Foundation of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena

Raj Thackeray left Shiv Sena in January 2006. For a couple of months he was in isolation from the media and press. But this was just the silence before the storm. On 9th March, 2006, Raj Thackeray announced his new political party named Maharashtra Navnirman Sena(MNS) in Mumbai at Shivaji Park. MNS was commonly called the "manase".

In the speech given by Raj Thackeray on 9th March, 2006, he gave the importance of the flag of MNS. He blatantly agreed that the orange colour is for Hindus, Green for Muslims and Blue for Dalits.

He also unveiled the logo or the election symbol of MNS which is a train. He said that the train symbolizes development and his aim to see Maharashtra's development.

MNS in Municipal Corporations

1. Pune Municipal Corporation(PMC) Elections 2007 - 8 MNS candidates elected
2. Nashik Municipal Corporation(NMC) Elections 2008 - 12 MNS candidates elected
3. BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) Elections 2008 - 7 MNS candidates elected
4. Thane Municipal Corporation Elections 2008 - 3 MNS candidates elected

MNS in 2009 Assembly elections Maharashtra

MNS won 13 seats with 13 MNS candidates representing MNS in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

MNS in 2009 Lok Sabaha elections

Although MNS didn't win any seat in Lok Sabha elections 2009, it stood 2nd at many places. Also, it gave a shock to Shiv Sena and the entire use was taken by Congress and NCP as the Marathi speaking votes were spread between MNS and Shiv Sena.
