Reality Shows in India
With the launch of Indian Idol 5, one must guess about the profit that Sony TV had made from the 4 previous ones. Today we see a rising trend of Reality Shows in India. Some are singing shows while others are dancing shows, even some are just Reality Shows which include putting some guys in a room for a month or so and noticing their behaviour. MTV is quite famous for such shows which are nearly full with beeps showing how respectfully the participants are talking.
Why one likes Reality Shows?
Coming to the singing and dancing reality shows, they are showing the talented youth of the country (according to them). But they are just fooling everyone around dumping them in the name of reality and running just a normal entertainment program. It never even appears real. The kids out there are just wasting their time as well as talent in front of some so called great singers and composers. If the judges are so good at singing then why don't they also sing along with the contestants, they won't because its the use of ultra modern mics and equipment that their voice becomes tolerable to ears, otherwise, the contestants upon whom they comment are far better in singing.
I think there is everything in such Reality Shows except reality. The contestants are asked to perform and do some mistakes which they promise will be corrected and even some cute ones are asked to cry if the judges point out something so that they could roll the camera from the candidate to the judges and vice versa and show that scene as a promotional scene on the channel all day so as to increase their TRP. But when the innocent contestants do so, they are never given any other chance, just asked to leave !
In the dance shows, young girls wear dresses that are not even worth watching from our TV sets whereas their parents can be seen cheering at such a great feat of their child. Those parents only must be making faces when they see Bollywood actors doing the same but their child doesn't remind them of actors because she is in one of the greatest Reality Shows of the country.
These Reality Shows are just playing havoc with the life of children who just for the sake of displaying their talent on the screen are used as a product to increase viewings. We see so many Reality Shows but few of us must have noticed that at the end, it is the deserving candidate who comes second while the non-deserving one is announced the winner, all in the name of Public Voting.
Although Reality Shows have one good thing that the talented youth is seen by the nation but the problem is with their unfair business and money oriented approach that makes it appear no more than a fictitious fable to watch.
Also, the worst effect is that some emotional students even try to commit suicide due to failure in such Reality Shows.
But everything is planned here and the participant is just treated as a property. The movie Paathshaala also has tried to convey this menace as a message in front of all and shown that how it affects the life of students.
To conclude, I would just like to say that Reality Shows have good effect only upon the top two contestants as they are generally the most famous and also get cash prize and honour in the society, rest are just treated as if they are mere beginners although they may be the best performers of the state.
Its high time the govt. puts restrictions on the functioning of these Reality Shows and take strict actions because the life of the youth can't be spoiled by someone.
