Bandra Worli Sea Link - Why it was built

The Bandra and the Worli suburbs of Mumbai are very populated areas. A lot of people travel from Bandra to Worli. The estimated distance through land is about 9km and the existing road had to bear a vehical rate of almost 1,20,000 on a busy traffic day. This is bound to create huge traffic problems and traffic jams. It took almost 40 minutes to 1 hour to reach from Bandra to Worli earlier. With the Bandra Worli Sea Link, the entire dedicated 5.6km 8 lane road ensures that traffic is diverterted through this route. It takes just about 6-7 minutes to reach Worli from Bandra or vice versa.
