Mumbai is known to as early as the 13th century. Then Mumbai was a group of islands and his capital was "Mahikawati" which is now known as the present day "Mahim".
History information of Raja Bhimdev
Not much information is available of Raja Bhimdev as of today and little information available here and there makes up of what is known today. He was a Agri by Caste.
It is said that Raja Bhimdev may have his origins from Anahilwada-Patan from Gujarat. It is also being postulated that Raja Bhimdev may have his origins from the Seuna Yadavas Dynasty of Devagiri.
There existed a Palace and a Justice court at present day Prabhadevi which is said to be built by him. He is said to have also built the first ever Babulnath temple. The name Babulnath comes from the fact that the place where the temple was built was covered with Jungles having "Babul" trees in the South Side of the Island.
Raja Bhimdev introduced many plants of tress to the Islands of Mumbai among which were the Coconut palms to the island.
He is also known to have brought many different caste people to the island among whom were the Pathare Prabhus, the Palshis, Pachkalshis, the Bhandaris, the Vadvals, the Bhois, the Agris and the Brahmins.
